In background: ""Well I've been putting out fires for about twenty-five years in this county and the first thing I learned was the secret about containing a fire, trying to minimize the spread of, y'know, the air streams in the house a lot of people have lost their lives because they don't have this information. I do recall on particular fire that is very formative for me in my career. It was Christmas Eve, I believe it was 1985 or 86, I was called to a fire on the east side of the city and it was very cold, rainy, sleeting sort of Christmas eve weather and the fire spread very fast, I believe it was started by a Christmas tree which had ignited and the family unfortunately did not make it and it was very difficult to see that kind of loss on that human scale on a Christmas eve knowing those children wouldn't be opening their presents. Among the wreckage I discovered something that I'll never forget, a small, dirty puppy ... from our firefighting I took him home""
