Back wagon of the old steam train
Three horses, me and the rain
Ain't got no money, ain't got no luck
No cigarettes looks like I'm givin' up
Sometimes things just happen that way
Like gambling, my money just runs away
Gave my last ten to the homeless man
He was sleepin' next to the garbage can with a sign that read
Whats this country coming to
He was a soldier and he fought brave and true
There were no welcome parade when he came home
Just a quick salute and off you go to
Pick up the pieces on your own
And welcome home
Forty six thousand brave Australian soldiers and nurses were sent to the Vietnam War
And on their return home they were shunned by Australia and its government
It took fifteen years, and in 1987 Prime Minister Bob Hawke turned the tide
And as they marched through the streets of Sydney
All Australians gave them the honourable and welcome home they deserved
And our country's honour was returned
When he left he had a family of three
To fight in Afghanistan, set the people free
Had three mates, they all got shot
Yeah Scotty John, yeah and we lost Rob you know
The kids are saving for a house
Yeah well it sure looks like that they'll be missin' out
Cause with the prices so high how did it get this way
The government sold us all away
To foreign investors and development scams
We're paying rent to people livin' in foreign lands
We say, Whats this country coming to
Whats this country coming to
With the prices so high how did it get this way
The government sold us all away
To foreign investors and development scams
We're paying rent to people livin' in foreign lands
And we say, Whats this country coming to
(Can you tell me)
Whats this country coming to
(Can't believe it)
With the prices so high how did it get this way
The government sold us all away
To foreign investors and development scams
We're paying rent to people livin' in foreign lands, and we say
We will fight and we will fight until they make it right
We're Australians, land of the free and home of the brave
We salute our brave soldiers who fight and are still fighting for our Australian dream
Stand together brothers and sisters of this great southern land
We want better wages, secure jobs, support for our farmers and for our homeless
We want hope, we all need a place to call home
And a country to be proud of to leave to our children, and their children
Stand up Australia
Yeah whats this country coming to
(Can you tell me)
Yeah whats this country coming to
(Can't believe it)
Yeah whats this country coming to
(Can you feel it)
Yeah whats this country coming to
