B. R. Leeson - A Song About Death and Hope Lyrics

B. R. Leeson - A Song About Death and Hope Lyrics

A young man walks alone on a cold winter's night
His eyes are black and blue
Lips are red and bloody from the fight
He's learning lessons that we all must learn in life
The world is cold without a home
It just gets harder as we go

See he got beat up for a place to lay his head
Ran away a long time ago,
Left his little baby daughter without a dad
You don't know desperate till a cardboard shack's your bed
But see it happens all the time
And desperate's never been a crime

We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

A young girl tosses and turns awake and all alone
Father left her and her mother hardly ever stays at home
She thinks 'Dad you said you'd stay and watch me grow'
But promises aren't all they used to be
But at least I hope you're happy and you're free

Few miles away a couple tears fall to the ground
The young man covers up his face
Wishing he was still around
Tell her he cares and pick her up when she falls down
But past mistakes can't be undone
Life's just a game he's never won

We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

Desperation grips the corners of his mind
In his hand's a pistol, deadliest kind of poison you can find
He loads a bullet, takes a deep breath, closed his eyes
Then he puts that gun up to his head
Thinking maybe things would be better if I'm dead

Catches a glimpse of death from underneath the door
Screams 'I don't think I can bear to live this life anymore'
Death walks in his black cloak dragging on the floor
Says, 'Pull that trigger and come with me
But maybe it's not as hopeless as it seems'

We all fall to pieces, we all break down and cry
We all hang our heads afraid to hold them up sometimes
They say life's a struggle, they say we'll always need to fight
And hey, maybe they're right

The young man drops his pride and falls to his knees
He looks up at death and say
Sorry but I've got promises to keep
We all get down sometimes and cry ourselves to sleep
But you just can't help being sad
When you've got that devil on your back

Death threw back his hood and said 'Son forgive me please
Never seen a man like you so humbled, falling on his knees
You're not begging too much but I see it in your eyes
You've got more will to live than the sun's got will to rise'

So pack your bags, go home, kiss your daughter
Tell her how much you missed her and how much you love her
Someday you and I will meet again
Some might even call us friends

You're a young man, got your whole life ahead
Things will get better so try and be happy instead
Just cherish the ones that you love
I'll be waiting for you, please don't give up

Your hair is already turning gray
So please don't waste your life away
