We take a plane into the circle
And a car as far North as we can
And in a cabin by the open sea we sleep
Easing buzzing heads and wringing hands
I'm waking to the sound of water steaming
And the smell of coffee in a cup
And through the half-light I can see you're fully dressed
While I am struggling to make it up
Then we take a sleigh across the frozen water
And leave the amber world behind
To seek what every son and daughter
Who came before us sought to find
Tomorrow there will be others
When we've turned to dust
But tonight it's you and me
And the stars belong to us
So we hunt the Aurora Borealis and wonder
If it really does exist, but can it be
Since stepping out from under clouded neon roofs
Our eyes have opened to the greater gift
Do we chase the pack across the frozen tundra
For another piece of pie
Or on a reindeer skin sit under
A jewel imbedded sky
Tomorrow there will be others
When we've turned to dust
But tonight it's you and me
And the stars belong to us
With clarity of lungs and minds
It's so much easier
To pick a path through constellations
Avoid life's complications
Polarity of worlds defined
We've got to find a way
To stop the lights from dissipating
Stick to the plans we're making
Here today and every day
I take a train back from the city
And a cab to keep out of the wet
And underneath the ashen duvet once again
Remember promises to not forget
Can we take a sleigh across the frozen water
If we both close our eyes.
And seek what sons and daughters
Before us sought to find
Tomorrow there will be others
When we've turned to dust
But tonight it's you and me
And the stars belong to us
Tomorrow they'll be others
But tonight it's you and me
And the stars belong to us
Tonight the stars belong to us
Tonight the stars belong to us
Tonight the stars belong to us
Tonight the stars belong to us
