Aaron Orr - The Queen in the Castle Lyrics

Through weathered brush and unkempt tress
Another story starts
A queen to-be sings sweetly
Then swiftly falls apart

She wakens to the butler boy
Humming a similar tune
He's standing by the window
With her dress for the afternoon

He smiles at her hair, her freckles, and her stare
As she dances towards his soul

Waltz, twirl, and sing
Like there's nothing wrong with this picture
Breathe in the madness
Of this maiden and her mister
The queen takes his hand
As they slowly descend to the floor
This isn't a lustful fairytale
It's two humans just longing for more

He says
"How does it feel to be loved by your people?
What does your heart say to customs of old?
How does it feel to be put on display
While your brown hair is brushed and your face painted gold?
She responds that it's all lovely
But it feels so lonely sometimes
Sharing names that differ by only a letter
She smiles and she swiftly replies

"How does it feel to be free of the people?
How does it feel to live life every day?
What do you hear when the lovers all swoon
To your beckoning hand and the glistening moon?"
There must be more to me than you imply
Just like there's more to you than that look in your eyes

He closes his mouth for a moment
Then looks in her eyes for a while

"Your highness, I promise it's lovely
But it feels so lonely sometimes
Yet somehow you guide me through life
When you put your hand in mine"

Criss-crossed they sit
As nobles and servants rush past
Their smiles fade to perplexion
As they yell at them with their last breath

"I'm done with trying on slippers"
"I'm finished with tying her laces"
"We're both running away to the forest
With our bare feet and our bare faces"

"We'll sing to the sun and we'll give up our names
Until the air forgets our breath
Until laughter leads to..."

My body longs for sleep
Burning like coals under starlight
By the fading fire
Of your smile
I start this time to walk towards something warmer

"Summer, I'm feeling so lonely
But it feels so lovely sometimes
I've sold my soul to ignorance
In exchange for speaking in rhyme"

Can I please get my eyes back
Death is not the only thing that they can see
Can I have my mouth
To whisper what I've shouted with these looming trees
I've lent my hearing to you
And I fear my flame will go soon
I'm waiting for the rain of Autumn
To see what my heart will do
