Ride The Cyclone: The Musical Soundtrack Lyrics

Karnak's Dream of Life
by Emily Rohm

I know this dream of life is never ending
It goes around and round and round again
You know the sun is rising while descending
It goes on and on and never ends

Welcome...
by Jacob Richmond

[Karnak:]
Hello, I am the amazing Karnak. I was designed to predict the exact time and place of someone's death- so you already know you're in for a good time, and welcome to the Ride The Cyclone album, where through my years of prognostication, I've realized that the only thing that makes less money than theatre, is releasing an album on a streaming service

[Zapping noise]

Yes, this is the talking part of the album that you will remove from the playlist in future rotations- or perhaps you are listening to this on a vinyl record and have to go through the painstaking process of skipping this track manually, all because of your absurd insistence that sound technology has not progressed since the year 1877. Eventually you will resign yourself to sitting through this talking part multiple times, weeping openly in the fetal position, one step closer to the realization that free will is just a fridge magnet, and we live briefly in a cold unfeeling deterministic universe in an abandoned warehouse called time

Ah! Musicals!

And now, without further ado: ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Saint Cassian Chamber Choir from Uranium City, Saskatchewan

[Clattering, whirring, electronic beeping. The sound of something starting up, then a final zap]

The Uranium Suite
by Lillian Castillo

[Constance:]
Our first song is by father Louis P. Marcus, our choir conductor. He was inspired by traditional African folk music—specifically the lion king. It's about our hometown, uranium. Enjoy

[Ocean:]
Uranium!

[Choir:]
Uranium

That's our town
Our friendly town

[Ocean:]
Uranium

[Choir (underneath next line):]
Uranium

That's our town
Our highway town
(Ooh)

[Noel:]
The sky is almost blue here
Grain elevators too, here

[Choir (underneath next line):]
The pride and joy of sweet Saskatchewan
(Ooh)

[Constance:]
We came here for the half-life
And stayed here for our whole life

[Choir:]
To give the whole wide world plutonium!

[Ocean:]
Uranium

[Choir:]
Uranium

That's our town
Our friendly town
Oh no no
We will never leave this town at all!

[Choir (tracked):]
La la la la la la la la la...

[Karnak:]
In my part of the story, I read all of the children's fortunes - I felt their hopes, thoughts, dreams, knowing they would board the doomed rollercoaster... and could tell them nothing. I even suggested that they ride the cyclone

[Choir:]
Aah...

[Karnak:]
On Monday, September 14th, they would board the cyclone rollercoaster at 6:17 pm

At 6:19, the same rollercoaster's front axle would break, causing it to derail at the apex of the loop-de-loop, hurtling the children to their deaths!

[Choir:]
Aah!

And then you're sailing through space
You don't know up from down
And you feel a little strange
From all that spinning 'round
And everything you loved

And everything you dreamed
And everything you feared
And everything that seems so
Oh, so terrifying

It's far behind on the ground
Like our far-from-the-city-little-itty-bitty-pretty hometown
Just a teeny, tiny dot on a wee blue ball
And we've all been spinning

[Noel, Mischa & Ricky:]
All been spinning

[Choir:]
Round and round and round
And round and round
Round and round
And round and round and round
And round and round

[Noel, Mischa & Ricky:]
Uranium...
Uranium...

[Ocean & Constance:]
Empty streets of empty shops
Shuttered rows of mom and pops
Bow down to the mega shopping mall

Uranium...
Uranium...

[Noel, Mischa & Ricky:]
The smart ones all packed up and went
Why stay if you can't pay the rent
We will never leave this town at all

[Choir:]
Drink some brew, join the choir
Build yourself a funeral pyre

Uranium our dead-end dive
We'll never leave this town alive
No we will never
Leave
This
Town
At
All!

[Karnak:]
Greetings children
It's time to play

[Choir:]
Earth is sky and sky is ground

[Whispered]
Did we finally leave our town?

(Button. The children stand gobsmacked, huddled together)

What the World Needs
by Tiffany Tatreau

[Karnak:]
I respect you taking the moral high ground. next

[Ocean:]
I'm just trying to prove to you that I'm a good person!

[Karnak:]
Duly noted. next

[Ocean:]
Nuh-nooo!

What the world needs is people like me
To keep it all spinning around
I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline-maker
Mmm, I get up
I get up
And no one's gonna keep me down

Okay, it's clear I'm the top of this class
These folks here, well, they pump the gas
Fetch me a coffee, shine my shoes
Some of us are winners, some were born to lose

You got the sandwich artist
The security guard
The Walmart-greeter with an overdrawn credit card

He smokes ganja
Ooh, it's so groovy
To stay at home
And watch a transformer movie!

She serves me coke and a medium fries
And no thanks, I don't want it supersized
'Cause that's low-class! diabetes in a cup!
Keep your head down, and things will look up

[Ocean and choir:]
What the world needs is people like me
To keep it all spinning around
I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline-maker

[Ocean:]
Mmm, I get up

[Constance:]
She gets up!

[Ocean:]
I get up
And no one's gonna keep me down

Seriously?
This one here? he's rarein' to fail!
He'll rob a 7-11 and go straight to jail
Maybe steal hubcaps, maybe steal booze?
Expressing himself with his homemade tattoos!

Soccer mom, minivan
Four little brats, no steady man
Do we really need another organ donor?

Maybe that was a little harsh. love you!

Oh?
Pokemon, spiderman
This kid doesn't have an attention span
And what's he gonna do, solve a Rubik's cube?

[Whispered]
How long's he got if we feed him through a tube?

[Ocean and choir:]
What the world needs is people like me
To keep it all spinning around
I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline-maker

[Ocean:]
Mmm, I get up

[Choir:]
She gets up!

[Ocean:]
I get up!
And no one's gonna keep me down!

And as we move through life
To find our place in the crowd

[Choir:]
Some don't make the cut
That's crystal clear-o

[Ocean:]
Oh yes, oh yes!

Oh, isn't someone keeping score?
I've gotta say this out loud?
I mean

[Ocean and choir:]
Do we really need another zero?

Or zero?
Or zero?
Or zero?
Or zero?

[Ocean:]
Add 'em all up and you'll still get zero!
What you really need is a further muckin' hero!

[Choir:]
And oh oh

[Ocean:]
He'll never learn to read!

[Choir:]
And oh oh

[Ocean:]
He's never gonna breed!

[Choir:]
And oh oh

[Ocean:]
Going to jail guaranteed!

[Ocean and choir:]
And she's a freaky monster!

[Choir:]
Yes, there's a problem!

[Ocean:]
I'm the solution!
Darwin had a theory called?

[Choir:]
Evolution!

[Ocean:]
He put it into words, but it's plain to see
We need a little less of them
A little more of me!

[Ricky/Mischa:]
What the world needs is people like me
To keep it all spinning around
I'm the mover, I'm the shaker, I'm the headline maker mmm, she gets up!

[Constance/Jane/Noel:]
We can't all be heroes
No!
Most of us?
Zero-ohs

[Ocean (ad-libbing):]
Me

Me me
Me me
Me me
Me me

Oh oh
A little more of me!

[Ricky/Mischa:]
She gets up!
Oh what the world needs is people like me
To keep it all spinnin' around
I'm the mover I'm the shaker I'm the headline maker, mmm, she gets up!
She gets up!
Some stay down

[Constance/Jane/Noel:]
We can't all be heroes
No!
Most of us?
Zero-ohs
Some fly high
She gets up
She gets up

[Ocean:]
I get up!
I get up!

[Chorus:]
Some stay down

[Ocean:]
And no one's gonna take me down
Doown!

(Ocean who's still in her button pose—atop a human pyramid of her classmates, looks down)

Noel's Lament
by Kholby Wardell

[ Featuring Scott Redmond, Ensemble ]

[Noel:]
In my life, I was Noel Gruber who worked at taco bell in uranium city, Saskatchewan
But in my dreams I played a different role. I was Monique Gibeau in post-war France!

A hooker with a heart of black charcoal
I write poems to burn by firelight
Drink champagne and guzzle gin
Good girls call me "the town bicycle"
Don't knock it 'til you've tried my life of sin

Oh, Claude, my pimp, knows never mess with me
Last prick did that faded quick to black
I have no idea where to find him, officers
But if you do, please mention that I'd
Like to have returned the pretty knife
That I stuck ten times in his back!
[Sips, swallows]

For I sing songs until the break of dawn
I embrace a new man every night
My life's one never-ending carnival

[Noel and choir:]
A world of boozy-floozy flashing light

[Noel:]
I want to be that f*cked up girl

He said, "I think I am in love with you"
I've heard that lie a million times before
Oh, tonight I give in to the fantasy
Take love when you can, when you're a whore

For I sing songs until the break of dawn
I embrace a new man every night
My life's one never-ending carnival
A world of boozy-floozy flashing light
I want to be that f*cked up girl

So now I sell my love for opium
In some rat-infested Chinese dive
At night I burn myself with cigarettes
Just to somehow prove I'm still alive

Eight months later I catch typhoid flu
Kicked out, I see the ugly light of day
Dying in an alley, a priest kneels down to me-

[Ricky (as priest, in French accent):]
"My child, do you have any final words to the lord you'd like to say?"

[Noel (as Monique, in French accent):]
"Oui. tell him that, like him, I choose to burn out rather than fade away!"

For I sing songs until the break of dawn
I embrace a new man every night
My life's one never-ending carnival
A world of boozy-floozy flashing light
For I sing songs until the break of dawn
I embrace a new man every night
My life's one never ending carnival

[Noel and choir:]
A world of boozy-floozy flashing light

[Noel:]
I want to be that f*cked up girl
I wanna be that f*cked up

[Ad-libbing, riffing]
Girl...

[Ocean/Constance:]
Broken heart, a flask of gin
Tattooed with a safety pin
Teeth all stained with nicotine
Running nylons, shattered dreams
Super crusty, holy terror
Wild eyes and black mascara
Broken heart, a flask of gin
Tattooed with a safety pin
Teeth all stained with nicotine
Running nylons, shattered dreams
Super crusty, holy terror
Wild eyes and black mascara

[Noel:]
If I could have just one dream...

[Ocean/Constance:]
If he could have just one dream...!

[Noel/Ocean/Constance:]
I'd be that f*cked up girl!

[Mischa/Ricky:]
Hey!

Every Story's Got A Lesson
by Jacob Richmond

[Ocean:]
Noel didn't even talk about anything real. It was just a song about him wanting to be a sex worker in the old-fashioned days! what is even the moral? what does it teach you? what's the lesson?

[Karnak:]
Not every story has a lesson, Ocean

[Ocean:]
[Like her entire worldview is being crushed]
Nooo...

[Adamant, slightly hysterical]
Every story has a lesson!
Every story...

Every story's got a lesson
A simple moral to be told
Although a tale may twist and turn...

[Choir (underneath previous line):]
[Whistling]
There's always something you can learn

[Ocean:]
A nugget of wisdom, solid gold!

[Choir:]
Solid gold!

[Karnak:]
Ah yes, perhaps every story does have lesson
Like Pompeii: don't live next to an active volcano

[Slide-whistle, boing]

Moving forward, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to raise it up for the best Ukrainian rapper in northeastern Saskatchewan, Mischa Bachinski: the angriest boy in town
P.S. the second movement of this section won't make a lick of sense until you see it live. and that, my friends, is a masterclass in how to upsell

This Song Is Awesome
by Chaz Duffy

[Mischa:]
Yo yo yo yo yo, this is song to tell you that what you is, is what you got
And I'm here to say that I am the money!

What you is
Is what you've got
And I am the money

[Constance:]
Take a look, baby, he's the real ka-ching

[Mischa:]
Lounging with my homies, Friday night scene
The Playstation's up on my 60-inch screen
Mcnuggets in the bag, cristal's on tap
New toothbrush from Tiffany's, still in the bubble wrap

Track lights are glowing like nuclear sciences
Sparkling all over my stainless steel appliances
I'm shining like Midas, I'm the king of ka-ching
Everything I touch goes bling, bling, bling

[Choir:]
Woah

[Mischa:]
My life is awesome
This beat is awesome

[Ricky as robot:]
Robots are awesome

[Constance:]
Take a look, baby, he's the real ka-ching

[Mischa:]
And I'll say it again, my life is awesome
This hook is awesome

[Ricky as robot:]
Robots are awesome

[Mischa:]
Now I'm rolling in my civvie with the pumped-up bass
Blue lights glowing, the vipers on my face
We pass around the chronic, we party all night
We start to get the munchies, so we stop for a bite

Cruise into the lot of the hard rock cafe
Here come the hotties, here come the valet
Front of the line, we don't need ID

[Constance:]
Your usual table, sir?

[Mischa:]
In the VIP
My life is awesome, this beat is awesome

[Ricky as robot:]
Robots are awesome

[Constance:]
Take a look, baby, he's the real ka-ching

[Mischa:]
And I'll say it again, my life is awesome
Auto-tune is awesome

[Ricky:]
0-1-0-1-0-1-1

[Mischa:]
It's time to start the party, but there ain't no party here yet
So we have to take a ride in my brand new learjet
Feeling homesick for my homies in the Ukraine
Landing in Kyiv before we finish off the champagne
Roll to the club where the rich kids go
Them eurotrash bitches all checking out my flow
All kinds of hotties, from all around the world
Then I feel this pair of eyes, and I see this girl
Shawt-ay

by Chaz Duffy

[ Featuring Ensemble ]

[Mischa:]
My divine Talia... when I look into your almond eyes, I do not see the boy I am, but the man I must become to possess you. I want to take all of the pain from your soul, and in the passion factory of my heart, transform it into functional joy. I want to take your hand by the Cheremosh river and with all Ukraine as witness, take you as my wife. and we shall sing and dance and drink... and then I shall whispеr in your ear, "let rivers run wild or lеt them be damned." my perfect Talia, I lay my masculinity at the altar of your maidenhood

Space Age Bachelor Man
by Scott Redmond

[Ricky:]
You might see before you
An ordinary man
Ha! an earthly illusion
All a part of the cosmic plan

Yes, long ago, they visited
Those others from outer space
Informed me I'm the chosen one
To save the zolarian race!

It's true. Listen...

[Noel/Mischa as aliens:]
Ricky, we are a distant galaxy
A galaxy greatly in need
Of your groove, you kink-o-matic powers
Yes we need your freak-tastic seed

[Ricky:]
They took me then, to their daughters' realm
The land of the kitty cat star
I know you've heard the legends of

[Ricky and choir:]
The sexy cat women from zolar!

[Cat noises]

[Constance/Jane/Ocean:]
Meow
Meow

[Constance (sexy pleading):]
Make love to me, Ricky

[Ricky:]
What?

[Constance/Jane/Ocean:]
Meow
Meow

[Ricky:]
Okay

[Ocean:]
But there's one more small thing. Won't you please help save our galaxy

[Constance and Ocean:]
Ricky?

[Ricky:]
Sure

What would you do in my place?
A mere mortal man?
With the fate of a galaxy before you
Millions of lives in your hand?

The naughty daughters of the realm
All hungry for my chi
You'd never guess the role I played
In zolarian history!

I'm just a swingin'...
Space age...
Bachelor man

Let's dance, kitties

[Tracked Ricky (tracked Constance, Jane, Ocean):]
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)
Meow
(Meow)

[Tracked foursome:]
Meow, meow meow meow, meow!

[Ricky:]
It gets weird now

[Noel/Mischa as aliens:]
Ricky, you've lain with our daughters
You're our hero, our saving grace
But now there is a new challenge
For zolaria to face...

[Ricky:]
For they're at war with k-9
Count dog-u-lous, that son of a bitch!

[Choir (except Jane):]
That son of a bitch!

[Ricky:]
The generals are all standing by

[Ricky and choir (except Jane):]
Tell us Ricky, should we pull the switch?

[Constance/Jane/Ocean:]
Meow
Meow

[Ricky:]
Oh my goodness, what have I gotten myself into?!

[Constance/Ocean:]
Meow
Meow

[Ricky:]
Why are they asking me? I'm a lover, not a fighter! I thought I told them:

I'm just a swingin'...
Space age...
Bachelor man

So I told them

"I am just a man
A space age man, that's all I am
But I wanna hold your hands
All your hands
As we make love tonight

Oh, I have no desire to rule the galaxy
Oh, to hold you close
Is enough for me
Making love in zero gravity-y-y-y! woah!"
Hey!

[Choir (repeating):]
Makin' love
Makin' love
Makin' love
On just love zolar!

[Ricky:]
Zolar! woo!

[Choir (repeating):]
Makin' love
Makin' love
Makin' love
On just love zolar!

[Ricky:]
Uh!
I've got to
I've got to make

You're my catnip. You're the most...
You're such a pretty, gritty kitty
I wanna be, your scra-hatchin' post
Let me be, let me be, let me be...!

[Choir (repeating):]
Makin' love
Makin' love
Makin' love
On just love...!

[Ricky:]
And they listened. and they heard my message, for I was singing notes that only cats or cat people could hear. a g#, 5 octaves above middle c

[Almost inaudibly high note]

Incredible. Peace was restored. I guess that's what happens...

When you're a swingin'...
Space age...
Bachelor man

So I came back to earth
To show you the way
To lead you pretty people
To a brighter day

We can save the whole galaxy
With love from the heart!
And sexy cat ladies that, that, that's where we'll start!

Yes, I came back to this rock!
With my love and my seed!
Ladies, you got what I want!
And you know I've got what you need!

Cause I'm a swinging!
Space age!
Bra-ba-ba-ba-bachelor man!

[Choir:]
Bachelor man!

Meet Jane Doe
by Jacob Richmond

I'm so happy right now, I can never come down
My turn
Aw man

Jane Doe, the one unidentified body of The Cyclone Roller Coaster Disaster
Everyone knew everyone in Uranium, but no one could recall this member of the choir
There were rumors of a girl who joined at the last minute
But as the choir conductor, Father Markus, died of a heart attack seven hours after the accident, there was no one left to verify
Some believe that perhaps she was never in the choir at all
I never read her fortune
I sadly cannot tell you
All one knows for certain is that a body was found in a Saint Cassian uniform without a head
So, a mystery

The Ballad of Jane Doe
by Emily Rohm

[ Featuring Ensemble ]

[Jane:]
Some might say we're released
Pushing daisies, deceased
But we all know the worms must be fed

There's just one lingering fear
Oh my soul, is it here?
Or is it rotting somewhere with my head?

Oh my soul
Oh my soul
Oh my soul
Oh my soul

Ooh...
Ooh...
Ah...
Ah... ah

Oh no soul, and no name
And no story, what a shame
Cruel existence was only a sham?

Oh Saint Peter, let me in!
You must know where I've been
Won't you tell me at last who I am?

Who I am
Who I am
Who I am
Who I am

Ooh...
Ooh...
Ah...
Ah... ah

And from the ground, beneath my feet
I hear the anguish of the street

[Choir:]
A choir never complete

[Jane:]
And like an old forgotten tune
A song that no one knows...
Forgot how it goes
Just John and me
Forever eternally, Jane Doe

And I'm asking, "Why, Lord?
If this is how I die, Lord
Why be left with no family
And no friends?"

[Choir:]
Ooh

[Jane:]
I've got no celebration
Just this consolation
Time eats all his children
In the end

[Arpeggio riffing:]
Ah...

A melody floats through the air
When silence falls, does no one care?

[Choir:]
Does anyone care?

[Jane:]
Another sad, forgotten tune
Another song that no one knows
So that's how it goes!
Just John and me
Forever eternally, Jane Doe

[Choir:]
And she's asking "Why, Lord?"

[Jane:]
Why, oh why, oh why, oh why...?

[Choir:]
"This is no way to die, Lord!"

[Jane:]
No one to sing, no one to sigh
Now that all is said and done
Isn't there anyone to tell me who I am?

[Choir (Jane):]
No singing songs of celebration
(Ah ah ah ah)
Just this sorry speculation
(Aah ah)

[Jane:]
Like John I'll be eternally
A forgotten name, some lost refrain
Just "Jane"
Jane...
Doe!

[Choir:]
A melody floats through the air
When silence falls, does no one care?
Jane

The New Birthday Song
by Emily Rohm

How do we know it's my birthday?
How do we know it's not your birthday?

One two three
One two three
One two three four?
This is the new song
We sing for birthdays

Bouncy and merry
And not quite as scary
The new birthday song

One two three
One two three
One two three four
This is the new song we sing for birthdays

Bouncy and merry
And not quite as scary
The new birthday song

Jawbreaker
by Lillian Castillo

[Constance:]
I rode The Cyclone with the other kids in the choir... and that's when the accident happened. We were at the top of the loop when the rollercoaster made this kind of screaming metal sound. Sparks were shooting all over the place! And then the screaming and the sparks just... stopped. And there was like this weightlessness. My heart jumped a gazillion beats a second, but I didn't scream like the other kids. No... I was just soaking it all in. 'Cause on a certain level, it was so rad! Sailing through the air upside down, you could see all the other rides, and it was like... something unlocked in me. My heart just welled out with all this love for everything! Images and all this feeling flooded into me like...

Like climbing back into my bed in the morning and feeling the heat left over from my body, hanging upside down from the monkey bars 'til my head starts to tingle, smelling Jiffy markers, listening to music, and dancing around my room before going out to a party, pretending I'm going to have the perfect time, finishing an essay, undoing a knot, pizza night, Halloween, watching my baby brother dance naked to ABBA, being in the choir at the height of the Hallelujah chorus and feeling all the voices rattling my bones- I started laughing like a crazy person, giddy with endorphins, it was all dancing leprechauns and rainbows and unicorns, streams of chocolate, whirling rides, flashing lights!

There's no shame in loving my small town. The only good things that happened to me happened in Uranium. It took a horrible accident for me to realize how goddamn wonderful everything is

Sugar Cloud
by Lillian Castillo

[ Featuring Ensemble ]

[Constance:]
I used to think that life was just a jawbreaker
Yeah you suck, and you suck, and you suck
And you suck and you suck some more
Yeah, you suck so more

At first, it seemed so sweet
As the colors come and go
Like the seasons come and go
The slush and rain and snow
'Til you can't taste no more

[Choir:]
So you suck some more

[Constance:]
I used to think that life was just a heartbreaker
That just breaks, and it breaks, and it breaks
And it breaks 'til you can't break no more

[Choir:]
'Til you can't take no more

Aah...
Aah...

[Constance:]
I see the world with all its backwards upside down
There's nothing wrong with being the nicest girl in town
Oh, everything's clear
Now that I'm here on my sugar cloud

Oh my soul, it sings a song so sweet and pure
I've felt it all along but now I'm sure
Oh, everything's love, looking down from above
On my sugar cloud

Let me take you away, to a sky of cotton candy
We'll fly in like a kite on a string
Up-up-up and above, all that sugarcoated dandy
I wouldn't change my life for a thing

It makes me wanna say

I see the gold, I see the pink, I see the blue
The sun goes up, the sun goes down
Oh, what to do?
Oh, everything's clear, now that I'm here
On my sugar cloud

[Choir:]
I used to think that life was just a jawbreaker

[Constance:]
Jawbreaker!

[Choir:]
You suck, and you suck, and you suck
And you suck some more
I used to think that life was just a heartbreaker
It breaks and it takes until you can't take no more

[Constance:]
And now I'm floatin' high on a cloud
And I could puke a rainbow

[Choir:]
Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah
Da daa da daa da...

[Noel/Mischa/Ricky (overlapping):]
All of the darkness
And all of the bright
All come together in a beautiful light
Yes...

[Ocean/Jane (overlapping):]
She sees the world
With all of its dark and its light
Yes...

[Constance:]
I see the world with all its backwards upside down
There's nothing wrong with the nicest girl in town

[Choir:]
Everything is clear
Here on my sugar cloud

And now now everything's love, looking down from above
On my sugar cloud

Oh, everything's clear
Now that I'm here
On my
Sugar...
Cloud...

[Constance:]
Look at me now on my

[Choir:]
Sugar cloud

[Constance:]
Yeah!...

It's Not A Game/It's Just A Ride
by Lillian Castillo

[Ocean:]
It's not a game
Maybe that's news
Cause no one will win here
And no one can lose

There's no one to measure
Our foolish pride
And no one keeps score
Of how hard we tried

[Ocean (as choir joins):]
This ride, it has heartbreak
This ride, it has pain
All kinds of blue skies
No shortage of rain
Yes, there is laughter
And the telling of lies
And maybe in darkness
We open our eyes

And you give and choose
While you love and lose
And you feel the world is spinning
With no ending or beginning

You just take a look around
Take a look around
Take a look around
And round and round and round

[Karnak:]
And now you're probably wondering, "what happens next?" that I couldn't possibly tell you. but I will say this. after reading thousands of human fortunes, my final insight is: your lucky number is 7. you will soar to great heights. be sure to ride the cyclone

[Ominous overlapping mechanical and whispered noises reach a crescendo]

[Ocean/Constance:]
We're just sailing through space

[Ricky/Noel/Mischa:]
There's no up or down

[Choir:]
So beautiful and strange
But it's more than spinning round

Yes, it's everything you loved
And everything you dreamed
And everything you shared
And everything that seemed so
Oh, so terrifying

[Ocean:]
But it's not a game, it's not a game

[Choir:]
Woah, no, no
It's not a game, it's not a game

It's just a ride
It's just a ride

We're all just sailing through space
There's no up, there's no down
It's all so beautiful and strange
But so much more than spinning 'round

Yes, it's everything you loved
And it's everything you dreamed
And it's everything you shared
And it's everything that seemed so
Oh, so terrifying
Turning 'round

It's just a ride
It's just a ride

And the world will keep on spinning
With no ending or beginning
So just take a look around
Take a look around
Take a look around
And round and round and round...

[Jane:]
I know this dream of life is never ending
It goes around and round and round again...

Be Safe, Be Good (for Rachel)
by Brooke Maxwell

[ Featuring Ensemble ]

[Jacob Richmond:]
I never went out swimming directly after lunch
I didn't smoke. No, I'd never text and drive
I always wore my seat belt, a life vest, or sunscreen
I had plans to stick around and stay alive

Button up my jacket when the cold wind blew
I'd brush my teeth at least two times a day
I never sat too close to the television
To my parents, I would listen and obey

[Choir:]
Be safe, they said
Be good

[Brooke Maxwell:]
But things don't happen quite the way they should

[Choir:]
Oh, mama...

[Brooke Maxwell:]
You know I've tried my best to toe the line
'Cause I thought at first
That this universe
Had a reason or a rhyme

You can dot your T's and cross your I's
But steady yourself for the big surprise
'Cause sooner or later you realize

[All:]
It's not fair! not fair...

[Brooke Maxwell:]
Boiled down and simplified
All that you can really do
Is buckle in
And hang on for the ride

A World Inside
by Brooke Maxwell

[ Featuring Ensemble ]

[Brooke Maxwell:]
The biggest lies I've ever told
Were to myself
(It's all black, you'll never find love)

That self-loathing sickness that we
All pretend is health
(They're better than you, they're better than you)

Oh, I can hear the thing
That I think they see
Yes, I can hate myself much more
Than they'll ever hate me
(Bury me deep, bury me deep)

But there isn't only darkness
And there isn't only light
The colors that I keep within
Are much more than black and white

I know that every single one of us has got a world inside
(Wonderful love, beautiful dreams)

If you're gonna run
Well, you know you've gotta fall
(You're gonna fall down, gonna get back up)

And if you wanna feel love
You've got to feel it all
(Hopes and fears, laughter, tears)

If you want the joy in life
You know you gonna cry
'Cause joy comes with a bitter truth
That you have to say goodbye
(That's how it goes, the way it goes)

But there isn't only darkness
And there isn't only light
The colors that we keep within
Are much more than black and white

And I know that every single one of us has got a world inside
(Wonderful love, beautiful dreams)

(A world inside!)
Sing it loud, sing it proud
(A world inside!)
Sing it like you're not allowed
(A world inside!)
Sing it from the highest clouds

Live a thousand years or a single day
Cause no one can ever ever take that world away

(Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba)

(Gonna fall down, gonna get back up)
(Hopes and fears, laughter, tears)

Think you're gonna miss it
If your eyes on the ground
So raise your head up
And just take a look around
(Take a look around, take a look around)

'Cause there isn't only darkness
And there isn't only light
The colors that we keep within
Are much more than black and white

I know that every single one of us has got a world inside
(Wonderful love, beautiful dreams)

(A world inside!)
Sing it loud and sing it proud
(A world inside!)
Sing it like you're not allowed
(Sing it like a world inside!)
Sing it from the highest clouds (highest clouds)

Live a thousand years or a single day
Cause no one can ever ever take that world away
(Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba)

You can see that every single one of us
Has got a world inside

Ride the Cyclone is a 2008 musical with music, lyrics and book by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell. It is the second installment in Richmond's "Uranium Teen Scream Trilogy", a collection of three theatrical works, one not yet written, that take place in the exaggerated Uranium City.

Members of the St. Cassian High School chamber choir of Uranium City, Saskatchewan, have perished on a faulty roller coaster called The Cyclone. Each tells their story, in song form, to win the reward from a mechanical fortune teller: the chance to return to life.

The world premiere production took place in Victoria, British Columbia at Atomic Vaudeville in 2008. It was directed by Britt Small with production design by Hank Pine and James Insell. A production played at the Theatre Passe Muraille, Toronto in 2011, and there was a tour of Western Canada in 2013.

The American premiere took place at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Directed by Rachel Rockwell, the production opened on 29 September 2015, playing a limited run until 8 November. With Rockwell again directing, the show opened Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre with an official opening night on 30 November 2016, ending its limited run on 18 December.
