Eric Guthrie - Back to the Elm Lyrics

Our life was good
On dew-covered wood
The wide mossy bough of an elm
Then one day I found myself spinning around
And I came to in an unknown 'hood

I looked up to see a new canopy
I ain't in Kansas anymore
I'd lost my way but I'm tough anyway
Least that's what I thought of me

The walk is longer than all my days
No animal to ride
I can't hop or fly. I can't deny
I'm in the ash, you're in the elm

So far I sustained on a June bug's remains
Been looking out and laying low
Chances are scant for one stranded ant
And frogs are coming out in the rain
I said frogs are coming out in the rain

The walk is longer than all my days
No animal to ride
I can't hop or fly. I can't deny
I'm in the ash, you're in the elm

I got to, I'm leaving
Ash tree - let me go
Where do I end up
Gliding by winged-seed tonight
Better hold tight

The wind kicked and blew, threw me up to
The way up there o'er the trees
Heading inbound, screeching birds all around
Closing in on this floating meal

As one darted in I made peace within
Beak shut hard, crushed the wing
Got swept miles away, but I made it ok
To The Valley of The Blue Never Been

Walk is longer than all the days
No animal to ride
So wear out the wait on that seed of fate
Hope you make it back to the elm
I hope you make it back to the elm
I know you'll make it back to the elm
