Contemporary Adult - Mercator Projection Lyrics

Contemporary Adult - Mercator Projection Lyrics

I cast a mercator projection upon myself
All my south things were made smaller, so I couldn't tell
That the length of my feet could actually wrap around my belt
And my entire head was so small, it could fit inside of my navel
But something crashed into my center and made my flat earth round
I'm still nauseous from the shock, my tiny head's in a cloud
I'm doing all I can not to spill my oceans on the floor
I was learning gravity, but it's not working anymore
I'm going out, I try not to freak out
Just not been the same since the virus came
I changed, I moved some things around
I changed my mind and I changed my town
It's like a movie, like an action film
But in real time it has a different feel
Don't shame my tirade again
I can myself
I'd trade this point for the end
But I can't
So for now I'll trust I'm in the middle of something
The navigator said to trade my map for a globe
You can't see what's behind, but you can see down below
The real sizes of things and all the pathways between
So I put my boat on the water and I started sailing
But I noticed I didn't build the boat according to my proper proportions
I built it all before I learned about these horrible distortions
So my tiny head rattles around in my big captain's hat
And my enormous feet make all the floorboards crack
So with the best of intentions, but completely disoriented
My misshaped boat zig-zagged around until this story ended
Just east of where I began, but I had forgotten the language
So I guess I'll learn it again, somehow I'll relearn to manage
I'm going out, I try not to freak out
Just not been the same since the virus came
I changed, I moved some things around
I changed my mind and I changed my town
It's like a movie, like an action film
But in real time it has a different feel
Could buy a gun and learn how to run
Save my adrenaline for when the violence comes
Or buy a ticket, go to public land
Jump out the bus and run as fast as I can
Like a grazer with a predator
No protection in a herd of settlers
So I'm changing my pride again
On land new to me
You know I'd trade this point for the end
But I can't
So for now I said I'm in the middle of something
